The Fine Print
Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and what we don't do with it.
The Short Version
We collect information to run the platform, process transactions, send you emails you signed up for, and improve the experience. We don't sell your data. We don't rent it. We don't share it with advertisers for targeting purposes. We use it to operate Curatery.

- Registration date (used for your 30-day download window)
When You Purchase or Download

- Download history (used to power download limits, verify reviews, calculate membership savings, and award points)
- Billing address, if required for tax purposes
When You Use the Site
- Hearts/saves — items you've saved to your account
- Collections — collections you create and their contents
- Review submissions
- Follows — corners and Nook authors you follow
- Points and streak activity
Automatically
- IP address and approximate location (for tax nexus monitoring and fraud prevention)
- Browser type, device type, and referring URL (standard server logs)
- Cookies — see our Cookie Policy for details
How We Use It
- To operate your account — downloads, memberships, purchase history, points, streaks
- To send emails you signed up for — newsletters, order confirmations, membership updates, points notifications
- To verify reviews — we confirm you downloaded an item before allowing a review
- To calculate your download allowance — your 30-day rolling window is tracked per account
- To display trending content — aggregate heart and download counts, never individual activity
- To comply with tax obligations — we monitor sales tax nexus thresholds by state as required by US law
- To improve the platform — aggregate usage data helps us understand what's working
What We Don't Do
- We do not sell your personal information
- We do not share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes
- We do not use your data to build advertising profiles
- We do not contact you with unsolicited commercial messages unrelated to Curatery
Third-Party Services
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the platform:
- Payment processing — payment card data is handled by our payment processor and never stored on our servers
- Email delivery — we send email via Amazon Simple Email Service (SES)
- Google AdSense — shown to unregistered visitors and free members; Google may use cookies for ad personalization per their own privacy policy
- Google Analytics / Search Console — aggregate traffic analysis
- Cloudflare — security and performance; processes traffic through their network
Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.
Email Communications
Free members receive our newsletter as part of their membership, it is not optional. If you unsubscribe, your access to free content will be revoked, though you will still have access to the website.
Club members receive membership communications while their membership is active. These cannot be opted out of while a Club membership is active, as they include important account information. You can manage your email options here: Manage Email Options
Transactional emails (receipts, download confirmations, password resets) are always sent regardless of marketing preferences.
Data Retention
- Active accounts: data retained while your account is open
- Unverified accounts: automatically deleted after 24 hours
- Closed accounts: personal data deleted within 30 days of account closure, except where retention is required by law (e.g., tax records)
- Purchase and download records: retained for tax and compliance purposes per applicable law
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To make a request, email hello@curatery.com from the address associated with your account. We will respond within 30 days.
You can update your profile information and name directly from your account settings at any time.
Children
Curatery is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We'll update this page when our practices change and notify registered members via email for material changes.
